Motivation: "Per lo sguardo intenso e icasticamente denso che viene gettato sulle tradizioni di una popolazione nomade africana, i Fulani: oppressori (di altre tribù, quando costituirono un impero, tra Sette e Ottocento), e poi oppressi dalla colonizzazione franco-britannica, rivestirono un ruolo importante nella diffusione della religione islamica in Africa. Il film insegue nascita e infanzia di alcuni di loro: bimbi che velocemente si fanno adulti nel custodire le mandrie, che la sera, intorno ad un falò, rievocano storie e pregano; quegli stessi adulti-bambini che, tra pochi anni, potrebbero approdare sulle nostre coste, e di cui è pertanto importante conoscere riti, tradizioni, cultura".

Cosa può fare la religiosità per scacciare i demoni interiori? E poi, quale religiosità? Quella sincretica che unisce giaculatorie cristiane, riti animistici arcaici ed esorcismi? Questo film ci restituisce, nell’arco di pochi minuti, una rappresentazione contratta ma ‘felice’ di un rapporto intenso con il proprio sé, con la figura materna, con una natura desolata ma partecipe".
