    Almost a century ago, a group of Czechs, inspired by the image of the American Wild West, created their own world in the woods. This is how the movement called “tramping” originated in the Czech Republic. Following the traces of previous “tramps” through the Bohemian forests, Bara, the young daughter of Czech immigrants in Canada, and Honza, a musician looking for adventure, take a long journey together as they look for internal freedom.

    Black Sheep is a lucid, precise and, at the same time, cinematographic overview on racism and Islamophobia in the youth culture of Northern England working class. A young man with a leather jacket is listening to a former inmate wearing a t-shirt in an empty and seedily lit living room. The topic of their discussion is Muslims in Great Britain and the protest that an organized group is going to display in most densely Islamic neighbourhood of the country.

    The filmmaker recovers some photos shot during the Salazar’s Estado Novo era, creating film which is a crossover of documentary, animation movie and visual arts. In this suspended world – Lisbon under the dictatorship, here imagined as a ghost nation – the levers of an essential style move a powerful and discreet political discourse.

    A woman tells her unconventional childhood experienced as the grandson of one of the most powerful pimp of Salzburg, amid prostitutes, pimps and customers. Meanwhile, the camera explores the inside of a sex club, the rooms and halls now desert, luxurious night clubs now empty.

    Marcin Podolec – a young Polish man already famous as a drawer and cartoonist – makes an animation film and calls it “document”. With this “document” the filmmaker conveys the ideas, feelings and memories of his father to tell about a man, his habits, his character, his emotions and the relationship with far children.

    San Cristobal de Las Casas, Mexico, late Eighties. An esteemed professional woman kills a four-year-old little girl. Over the days after the crime, the police record the woman’s depositions, describing her disturbing point of view and the circumstances of the murder. The pictures remind us of the style of a few recent horror box-office hits.

    The biography of Adan Jacek Winkler, a Polish refugee in Paris retraces half a century of history in the form of an animation documentary. Jacek leaves France in the Eighties as a romantic hero who gives a sense to his own life to fight the Soviet army in Afghanistan with Commander Massoud. He will soon discover a deep bond with those places and he will become “Adam Khan”...

    During Nazi domination, a man visits the town of Salers in France where Mimi Pinson, a mad woman – who died in a mental asylum writing letters to World leaders – follows him. Around eighty years later, the man comes back in the same places, crossed by distant memories of a far-away past like moving shadows on a dirty wall.

    Finland. A photographer roams around a tree road leading to Hotel Aulanko, inaugurated in 1938. The hotel was a reference for a generation of young Finnish people and was also the place of the mysterious death of Sirkka Sari, a rising star of Finnish cinema in the Thirties. The biopic crosses with paranormal thriller, colour is mixed with black and white in a film gathering materials, styles, voices and faces, as a detective trying to sort out to its clues.

    It is 27th December 1991. Sandro, a 13 year old boy, is boarding on a plane heading to Japan with his family. However, flight 751 will only last just 4 minutes above the Stockholm sky, falling right after taking off. The film re-enacts the accident with digitally animated drawings, filling them with the emotions, the fear and the shock making Sandro’s voice vibrate every time he remembers that tragic day.

  • THE QUEEN OF SILENCE

    10 years old Denisa is an outcast in many ways. She is an illegal citizen of a gypsy camp in Poland, a woman in a patriarchal gypsy community and most of all – she doesn’t speak as no one has ever diagnosed her with severe hearing disabilities. She lives in a world of her own, full of rhythm and dance, imitating the glamorous women from the Bollywood DVDs she found in a nearby garbage. Dancing she can be anyone she wants, even a queen, and express what she can‘t say – joy, sadness and fear. In The Queen of Silence documentary turns into a compelling musical, with a fantastic soundtrack by CocoRosie.

  • THE RABBIT AND THE TEASEL

    The film-maker moves from Belgium to a village in the remotest rural part of Ireland. She falls in love with the harsh daily life of the shepherds and farmers who live in this land, therefore she decides to produce a web documentary about them. From a section of this first film, she developed The Rabbit and The Teasel.
