  • EXAMEN D'ETAT
    National Diploma

    France/Congo 2014 92'
    Directed by: Dieudo Hamadi
A group of high-school students is about to take the state exam, the equivalent of the French baccalaureate, in Kisangani, Democratic Republic of the Congo. The camera of Dieudo Hamadi, a young Congolese film director, has followed the kids throughout the months before the exam from their school desks from which they are expelled because they didn’t pay for the teachers’ ‘commissions’ to the maquis, the residence hall where they retire to study together.
Among propitiatory rituals, prayer sessions, and attempts to get hold of the test keys, no one thinks that the best approach to pass an exam is to... study!

  • MOI, UN NOIR

    France 1959 70'
    Directed by: Jean Rouch
The portrait of a group of young Nigerians who have left their land in search of a job in the Ivory Coast, namely in Treichville, a suburb in Abidjan, the economic capital of the African country. Rouch shows the daily life of three young Nigerians, Tarzan, Robinson, and Eddy Constantine (names of heroes of well-known adventure novels). Every morning, the three 'heroes' arrive at the harbour, hoping they will earn a little money. They can only find very low-paid jobs. At night, they try to forget their troubles by drinking too much and dancing with hot suburban girls, such as Dorothy Lamour. The hardship of daily existence is accompanied by a life philosophy pervaded with optimism. Moi, un noir is a funny, cheerful film with lots of humorous wisecracks.
