  • BRISE-GLACE
    Omaggio a Raoul Ruiz

    France/Sverige 1987 88'
Directed by: Jean Rouch, Raoul Ruiz, Titte Törnroth
Brise-glace is one of the masterpieces of the Festival dei Popoli’s Archives. Three great directors – Raoul Ruiz, Jean Rouch and the Finnish Titte Törnroth – have lived in the cold and solitude of the Arctic Ocean on an icebreaker. And each in its own way has filmed life on the boat Frej and in the surrounding.

2011 Thursday, November 17th, Spazio Uno, 10:30 pm

  • CAVE OF FORGOTTEN DREAMS
    (Proiezione in 3D)

    Canada/USA/France/Germany/UK 2010 90'
    Directed by: Werner Herzog
Werner Herzog once again allows us to cross the border into something extraordinary: the cave of Chauvet in southern France, the oldest in the world. The film shows us the walls of the cave, allowing us to discover the works of art that adorn them, dating back to 32,000 years ago. The use of 3D technology makes the journey into the depths of the earth and the meeting with an old civilization even more realistic, touching and moving.
Event with the collaboration with Fondazione Florens.

    2011 Monday, November 14th, Odeon, 9:30 pm

  • CHRONIQUE D’UN FILM

    France 2011
Directed by: Ayreen Anastas, François Bucher, René Gabri
Presentation of the project based on previously unrealised material from Chronique d’un Été, by Jean Rouch e Edgar Morin

“In 2007 we decided to work together on a project in order to revisit the revolutionary ethos of the 1960s, intended as a collective project remained unfinished, dedicating ourselves to analyze the extraordinary film by Jean Rouch and Edgar Morin: Chronique d’un Été (1961). We recovered the rushes of the film, to make a new editing and redeem the missed opportunity.” Chronique d’un Film is a project, a work in progress, constantly in dialogue with the original film.

2011 Saturday, November 12th, Istituto Francese, 3:00 pm

  • CRAZY HORSE
    Festival Closing Night

    France/USA 2011 134'
    Directed by: Frederick Wiseman
From the study of choreography and lighting, to the making of the
costumes and the auditions, Wiseman delves into the rooms of the
parisian cabaret Crazy Horse, one of the places that have built the erotic imagination of the twentieth century. The need to preserve a tradition sometimes hardly coexists with the evolution of the idea of entertainment for adults and taste for beauty.

    2011 Saturday, November 19th, Odeon, 8:00 pm

  • IT MIGHT GET LOUD
    Festival Opening Night

    USA 2008 97'
    Directed by: Davis Guggenheim
Get ready because… It Might Get Loud!
Three generations of guitarists come together in an empty space to be filled with music and thoughts. Jimmy Page (Led Zeppelin), The Edge (U2), Jack White (The White Stripes) and 6 strings to tell stories made of music and rebellion. Inspired and captivating, intimate and revelatory, this film gets to focus primarily on the people rather than on the rock stars, on music rather than on success.
