WITH LOVE FROM TRUMAN
by Albert Maysles, David Maysles, Charlotte Zwerin (USA, 1966, 29’)
with: Truman Capote
In 1965 Truman Capote’s In Cold Blood made the author an international literary star. That same year, shortly after the book’s publication, the writer received a journalist at his house on the beach. Albert and David Maysles - masters of direct cinema - filmed the interview. Capote reveals the origin of the book: In Cold Blood is based on the true account of a brutal murder of an entire family. The author, with passion and humor, explains, in his intriguing way, his participation in the trial and the absorbing relationship he formed with the two young killers.

CAPOTE
by Bennett Miller (USA/Canada, 2005, 114')
with: Philip Seymour Hoffman, Catherine Keener, Clifton Collins Jr
In 1959, Truman Capote learns about the horrific and senseless murder of a family of four in Kansas. Inspired by the story material, Capote and his partner, Harper Lee, travel to the town to conduct research for an article. As he digs deeper into the story, he is inspired to expand the project into what would be his greatest work, In Cold Blood. He arranges extensive interviews with the prisoners, especially Perry Smith, a man with a troubled history. Capote feels some compassion for Perry, but that feeling deeply conflicts with his need for closure on his book, which only an execution can provide. Philip Seymour Hoffman plays Truman Capote in an amazing interpretation of the great American writer.

Writers' portraits from the Festival dei Popoli's archives
"BORN TO BE A WRITER" is a journey to discover great writers who made a great contribution to the world literature. Are writers born or made? Can the passion for writing overwhelm all the others? Does inspiration last?
Festival dei Popoli proposes, in the framework of Estate Fiorentina 2014, four portraits in which great writers speak about their ideas and their work. Through their own words we come to understand what it means: "Born to Be a Writer".
