In a dense interrelation between intimate diary, cinema essay and anthropologic film, this film connects past and present, European policies for the management of migration flows to the history of the last colonialism campaign in Northern Africa, setting its point of view with an urgency that is opposed to any emergency rhetoric. Written words, voices, images are saved from the waters of oblivion, and linked together building a story that is incredibly short and, at the same time, tragically deep.

A few years after WWII, in a basement in the South of France was found the autobiographical work of a German Jewish young woman, Charlotte Salomon, made of words and painted panels. In-between graphic novel, intimate journal, and 19th-century feuilleton, Salomon’s work is quasi animated in the film, which makes it re-echo hypnotically, using the empty rooms that once sheltered her as a sounding board, beyond space and time.

In una zona mineraria e industriale della Cina, gli uomini contraggono malattie polmonari che li portano alla morte. Il film costruisce un percorso che collega tra loro queste esistenze, che chiedono di essere filmate, di raccontare, di lasciare una traccia. Attraverso le immagini, queste esistenze condannate, che non cessano di lottare, si ritrovano e si riconoscono, in un percorso filmico urgente che ha a che fare con la forza vitale del cinema e degli esseri umani.

L'iniziazione alla vita adulta di un giovane Badjao, pescatore del Borneo. Il giovane Sari viene educato dallo zio alle classiche tecniche di pesca della sua popolazione, che fino a pochi anni fa viveva interamente di mare, grazie ad una particolare capacità di convivenza con il mondo acquatico. Ma i nomadi del mare devono oggi affrontare una difficile decisione: continuare a vivere di pesca, o cedere alla nuova industria del turismo?
