BUKOWSKI: BORN INTO THIS
"BORN TO BE A WRITER"
JULY 9TH, 2014 - PIAZZA SS ANNUNZIATA - 9:30 pm
BUKOWSKI: BORN INTO THIS
by John Dullaghan (USA, 2003, 120’)
with: Charles Bukowski, Linda Lee, Sean Penn, Bono Vox, Tom Waits
A pictorial biography of Charles Bukowski, the writer close to American counterculture in the sixties, whose works are loved and read all over the world, even though too often reduced to an icon of alcoholic and sexual transgression. The film portrays the writer in a number of interviews of when he was at the height of success. Before the camera Bukowski keeps faith with his image of an asocial rebel typical of his alter egos, the many protagonists of tens of novels, stories and poems that comprise his work. We follow him through his “Los Angeles of ordinary madness” and with a number of famous friends including Sean Penn, Bono Vox and Tom Waits.

Writers' portraits from the Festival dei Popoli's archives
"BORN TO BE A WRITER" is a journey to discover great writers who made a great contribution to the world literature. Are writers born or made? Can the passion for writing overwhelm all the others? Does inspiration last?
Festival dei Popoli proposes, in the framework of Estate Fiorentina 2014, four portraits in which great writers speak about their ideas and their work. Through their own words we come to understand what it means: "Born to Be a Writer".
