"BORN TO BE A WRITER": SALINGER

"BORN TO BE A WRITER"
JULY 23RD, 2014 - PIAZZA SS ANNUNZIATA - 9:30 pm

SALINGER
by Shane Salerno (USA, 2013, 120’)
with: Philip Seymour Hoffman, Edward Norton, John Cusak, Martin Sheen, Tom Wolfe
The film will be introduced by Giorgio van Straten, writer

For over fifty years, JD Salinger, the elusive author of The Catcher in the Rye, has been the subject of a relentless stream of inquiries, investigations and gossip. About him all sorts of articles, biographies and inferences, were written, one of which was so controversial as to end up in court. However, all attempts to learn more about the New Yorker native concerned in a maniacal defense of his privacy, have been hampered by the wall that Salinger had raised around him. Holden Caulfield's creator, the author of one of the most beloved books of the 20th century remained largely an enigma, both for the public and for the media. At least until now.

"BORN TO BE A WRITER"
Writers' portraits from the Festival dei Popoli's archives

"BORN TO BE A WRITER" is a journey to discover great writers who made a great contribution to the world literature. Are writers born or made? Can the passion for writing overwhelm all the others? Does inspiration last?

Festival dei Popoli proposes, in the framework of Estate Fiorentina 2014, four portraits in which great writers speak about their ideas and their work. Through their own words we come to understand what it means: "Born to Be a Writer".
