
MEETING WITH DEPARDON
As special guests of the 53rd Festival dei Popoli, Raymond Depardon and Claudine Nougaret will be in Florence to present their last film: Journal de France (saturday, November 10th, 5:00 pm, Cinema Odeon, Piazza Strozzi 2 – Florence). On Sunday, November 11th, 11:00 am, Raymond Depardon and Claudine Nougaret will meet the public at Istituto Francese (Piazza Ognissanti 2 - Firenze). The event is organized in collaboration with the French Embassy and with the French Institute of Florence.
Raymond Depardon e Claudine Nougaret - ospiti d’onore del festival - giunti a Firenze per presentare il loro ultimo lavoro, Journal de France (sabato 10 novembre, ore 17:00 presso Cinema Odeon, Piazza Strozzi 2 - Firenze), terranno un incontro con il pubblico domenica 11 novembre, ore 11:00 presso l’Istituto Francese (Piazza Ognissanti 2 - Firenze). L’incontro sarà moderato da Carlo Chatrian, direttore del Festival del Film di Locarno (ingresso gratuito).
Raymond Depardon (Villefranchesur-Saône, 1942) is a photojournalist, filmmaker and journalist. At age 16 he moved to Paris where he began his profession as a photographer. In 1960, during his military service, he reported the war in Algeria. In 1966 he founded, together with Gilles Caron, the agency Gamma, for which he created reportages in “hot spots” of the planet (Venezuela, Africa, Biafra, Chad) and Southeast Asia (Vietnam, Cambodia). Since 1969, when it made a short film about the funeral of Ian Palach, he alternates documentary filmmaking and photography, to debut in fiction in 1985. In 1977 he received the Pulitzer Prize in 1978 and leaves the range to join the Magnum Photos where he became a full member in 1979.
Claudine Nougaret, born in 1958 in Montpellier, is a producer, director and engineer. Working with Eric Rohmer (in La Rayon verte) became the first woman chief operator of the French cinema. The last film she realised with her husband Raymond Depardon is Journal de France, which has the traditional characteristics of a travel journal looking for the remnants of a culture, of a memory. Filming started in October 2010 using two cameras of Penelope Aaton three perforations. The film premiered at the Cannes Film Festival 2012.
